An individual who spiked sweets with tranquilliser and gave them to minors at a summer camp in Leicestershire has admitted sexual offences against two children who were nine and ten years old.

The defendant was detained after eight youngsters and one adult experienced illness at Stathern Lodge in July.

The senior citizen, from the Nottinghamshire area, pleaded guilty to a multiple criminal counts when he stood at the courthouse on the end of the week.

Nevertheless, he disputed one particular crime he was facing, which was against a nine-year-old boy.

Ruben was kept in jail before a additional proceeding on late November.

'Sweet game'

The prosecutor, prosecuting, outlined Ruben's offending to the judicial body.

She said his victims were under-privileged children who were staying at a summer program which he ran.

The man engaged in a "treat game" with the children, the legal counsel explained, in which he would access the sleeping quarters when they were settling down and request they to eat sweets "rapidly".

She stated to the judge the man had conducted this practice with the young males "repeatedly", and youngsters had previously fallen ill the subsequent day.

She explained the man had been capable of justifying this for many years as the children being "overexcited from fun", until his family member had concerns in summer 2025.

The prosecutor added: "Recently" his family member had suspicions about the activities, with valid cause.

"They decided to have a look in the defendant's belongings."

Mrs Prior KC said items including baby oil, petroleum jelly and medical needles were located, and his family member contacted the police about his concerns.

She stated the defendant went on to engage in the "sweet game" with six children that time - that Saturday - and they were everyone unwell the subsequent day.

"Law enforcement" had not arrived by that stage," she continued.

The police watchdog, the police conduct office, had stated that it was reviewing Leicestershire Police's handling of the incident.

The prosecutor explained the minors were struggling to walk due to being ill, so the stepson notified the law enforcement once more.

She stated the man then engaged in the "treat game" in a area of five children.
